If you lead revenue at a growing B2B company, HubSpot Content Hub is where your website, blog, landing pages and content tools live, on the same customer platform as your CRM. Marketers publish without waiting on a developer, and every visit and form fill lands in the customer record.

This guide is for CEOs, founders, CROs and revenue leaders, and the marketing and sales leads who work in it weekly. You get what Content Hub includes, how it differs from a self-hosted content management system, who it suits and what a team gains when it is set up properly.

## How HubSpot Content Hub works

![Four layers stacked from the bottom, theme, templates, modules and fields, held together by Content Hub.](https://www.finemediabw.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/HubSpot%20Services/Awareness/What%20Is%20HubSpot%20Content%20Hub%20-%20A%20Plain%20Guide%20for%20Revenue%20Leaders/hs03-content-hub-site-layers-blog-1600x900.png?width=1600&height=900&name=hs03-content-hub-site-layers-blog-1600x900.png)

Content Hub is a CMS platform delivered as software as a service. A content management system is the software that lets people create, edit and publish web pages without writing code each time.

Most content management systems offer a page editor, a place to store images and files that works as basic digital asset management, and a way to control who can change what. The right CMS is the one your business can run without a developer for every change.

What sets this one apart is where it sits. Your website content, lead collection and analytics are integrated with the HubSpot CRM, [according to HubSpot's developer documentation](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/cms/start-building/introduction/overview). The site is not a separate system that someone has to connect later.

The structure is built in layers, and knowing them explains most of what you will see in the editor. A theme is the top-level container that packages everything into a cohesive site.

Templates sit one level down and are what content creators use to build individual pages and blog posts, which keeps every new page on brand. Modules are the elements placed on a page, such as a pricing card or an image gallery. Fields are the settings inside themes and modules.

Developers or a design partner build the theme, templates and modules once. Marketers then work inside defined style and layout guardrails, so they can move fast without breaking the web design. The people who write the page content are not the people who maintain the code.

When a visitor asks for a page, HubSpot renders it on its own servers and serves it through a content delivery network where it can. Your team does not manage servers, plugin updates or scaling.

## Key features of HubSpot Content Hub

![Screenshot of the HubSpot Content Hub product page showing the theme settings editor beside a landing page being edited, with the drag-and-drop editor described alongside.](https://www.finemediabw.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/HubSpot%20Services/Awareness/What%20Is%20HubSpot%20Content%20Hub%20-%20A%20Plain%20Guide%20for%20Revenue%20Leaders/hs03-content-hub-product-page-blog-1600x900.png?width=1600&height=900&name=hs03-content-hub-product-page-blog-1600x900.png)

Think of Content Hub as one core with several tools around it. Each tool is a way to create content, manage content or publish content, and all of them read from the same customer record.

### Content editing tools that need no code

The content editing tools are built for marketers and other content creators who have no coding background. In the editor, you use drag and drop to add, edit and rearrange blocks on a page or blog post. Modules are reusable content elements, such as text, images, forms, calls-to-action and videos.

This is the user friendly interface that lets a marketer easily create a page without coding skills. Developers stay involved for advanced customization, and the two groups work in the same system.

### Website pages and landing pages

HubSpot's documentation draws a clear line between the two. [Website pages](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/website-and-landing-pages/create-and-customize-pages) present information that is part of your site and are designed to be found through search. Product pages, the about page and service pages are typical examples.

A landing page is generally tied to a specific offer or campaign, for example the page a marketing email sends a list of contacts to. For the person building them, the process is nearly identical, and both start from a template in your active theme.

### The blog

HubSpot blogs have two views: one for the listing page and one for the individual post. A blog can share the theme used by your pages, so articles look like part of the same site.

### AI tools for drafting and repurposing

You can describe the purpose, audience and tone of a page and let HubSpot's AI generate a first version, then open it in the editor to refine. A person still reviews and publishes it.

The content remix tool uses AI to [repurpose existing content](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/blog/repurpose-content-using-ai-with-content-remix) into additional formats, including blog posts, social posts, images and SMS messages. One source piece of digital content can feed multiple channels without being rewritten by hand, and every new content item starts from work you already approved.

### Search guidance inside the editor

HubSpot's SEO tool scans pages and analyzes on-page factors, and its recommendations identify issues that affect a site's visibility in search results. Marketers see the guidance while they write, not in a separate audit weeks later.

It helps with titles, descriptions and structure, and it supports search traffic from the search engine. SEO guidance supports a content strategy; it does not replace one.

### Personalization, languages and private content

Smart content modules show different versions of a page based on who is viewing it, such as their country, device type, referral source or segment. That is how a site delivers personalized experiences without building a separate page for each audience.

Multi-language variations let visitors read content in the language they are most comfortable with. Membership pages can require CRM contacts to log in, and what they see can be personalized to the logged-in contact.

Pages can also be filled from structured content. HubDB tables and CRM records, such as contacts, companies or custom objects, can populate dynamic pages, so a directory or resource library stays current without anyone editing each page by hand.

### Permissions for multiple team members

Content Hub includes governance features. Permissions decide who can edit and who can publish, so user access follows user roles. Teams that want a review step before pages go live should check HubSpot's current documentation on content approvals.

### Reporting and performance analytics

HubSpot positions Content Hub as the place to manage, update and distribute content from one platform, with reporting dashboards that show which content performs best. Because visitors who convert become contact records, content results can be read against pipeline instead of page views alone.

## How landing pages work in HubSpot Content Hub

Landing pages are where a marketing campaign meets a form, and each one is written for one target audience at a time. A landing page is a standalone page built for one campaign, with one job: get a visitor to take one action, such as booking a call or downloading a guide.

Most landing pages leave out the site navigation and extra links so nothing pulls the visitor away. Lead generation landing pages collect details through a form. Clickthrough landing pages send the visitor on to a sales or sign-up step.

In Content Hub, a landing page is built from a template in your theme with modules for the headline, the form and the call-to-action. Because the form writes to the CRM, every submission creates or updates a contact. Sales sees who responded and from which offer.

You can also test variations. An adaptive test shows how small changes to a page affect its [conversion rate](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/cms-general/create-an-adaptive-test-for-a-page), and the variation that performs best is shown to visitors more often. That is how a team goes about increasing conversion rates in a controlled way instead of guessing.

Give every landing page a single offer, a single form and a clear next step for sales.

## How HubSpot Content Hub differs from a self-hosted CMS

![Three columns compared on four rows, with Content Hub in the dark: self-hosted, headless and Content Hub, each with who runs it, how much control you have, the upkeep and what it knows about the visitor.](https://www.finemediabw.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Blog/HubSpot%20Services/Awareness/What%20Is%20HubSpot%20Content%20Hub%20-%20A%20Plain%20Guide%20for%20Revenue%20Leaders/hs03-content-hub-vs-self-hosted-blog-1600x900.png?width=1600&height=900&name=hs03-content-hub-vs-self-hosted-blog-1600x900.png)

Many CMS platforms do the same basic job: store content, apply a design and publish pages. Most CMS platforms can run blogs, static websites, online stores, membership sites, course platforms and forums. The real differences are who runs the system, how much control you have and what the content connects to.

A traditional CMS that you host yourself gives you the most control, and an open-source one gives you full access to the source code.

You choose the hosting, add plugins and can change almost anything. You also own the updates, security patches and performance tuning, which can be time consuming for a team whose job is to grow revenue.

HubSpot makes the opposite trade, and says so plainly in its developer documentation. HubSpot takes care of hosting and maintaining your pages, so you do not worry about plugin management, updates, hosting, scaling or security.

The tradeoff is that the system puts a few more restrictions on what you can do compared to self-hosted systems. You cannot alter or extend system fundamentals manually or through plugins, change low-level rendering or edit database content directly.

For most B2B marketing sites that is a good deal. A revenue team rarely needs to rewrite how pages are rendered. It needs pages that load, forms that work and content it can change on a Tuesday afternoon.

A headless CMS is a third pattern. It stores content and delivers it through APIs to any device or front end that someone else builds, which suits teams publishing to an app, a kiosk or many channels. A decoupled CMS separates content and display in a similar way.

HubSpot's CMS is neither. It stores the content and renders the page itself. If your product needs content sent to various channels from one store, ask a developer whether this model fits.

The deepest difference is the data. A standalone CMS knows what a visitor looked at. Content Hub sits on the same platform as the CRM, so it can know who the visitor is, which campaign they came from and which deals they are attached to.

A short note on the name: "content hub" is also a common phrase for a page that collects related articles on one subject. This guide is about the HubSpot product, not that content marketing pattern, although a HubSpot site is a good place to run one.

## Who HubSpot Content Hub suits

Content Hub fits best when the website is a revenue tool and the people who run it are marketers, not engineers.

HubSpot describes its CMS as something that lets you create a site yourself or work with developers for advanced customization, and that range is realistic.

It serves small businesses that need a site quickly and larger teams with several people publishing. Large enterprises with heavy custom needs, or those running multiple websites on different platforms, should test the fit first.

It tends to suit these situations:

- **A B2B company whose HubSpot CRM already holds the customer record.** Web activity then lands in [the unified customer record](https://www.finemediabw.com/blog/hubspot-crm-features-unified-customer-record) where sales and customer success already work.
- **A marketing team that publishes often.** Drag and drop editing, templates and in-editor guidance cut the time from draft to live page.
- **A growing business with several markets or audiences.** Language variations and smart content let one site serve more than one reader.
- **A team that wants to stop maintaining a stack.** No plugin updates, no hosting contract and no patch calendar.

It is a weaker fit when you need to change how the platform itself behaves, when you run a large online store with custom checkout and payment gateways, or when a heavy custom application is the main product. Those cases usually pair a specialist system with HubSpot rather than replace it.

## How to choose the right content management system

The right content management system matches your business goals and your technical capabilities, not the longest feature list. Four key details settle most decisions.

- **Who will publish?** If marketers publish weekly, favor a platform they can use alone.
- **What must the site connect to?** If the CRM is the center of your revenue process, a system that shares its data removes integration work.
- **How much control do you need?** If you need to change the platform itself, a self-hosted option fits better.
- **Who maintains it?** Decide whether you want that to be your team or the vendor.

For a sense of what a finished site looks like, see [examples of websites built with HubSpot's CMS](https://www.finemediabw.com/blog/examples-of-websites-built-with-hubspots-cms). To place Content Hub among the other parts of the platform, start with [what HubSpot is](https://www.finemediabw.com/blog/what-is-hubspot).

## What you gain when this is done properly

When the theme, templates and data are set up with intent, the benefit shows up in every revenue team, not only marketing.

### What sales gains

Reps open a record and see which pages and offers a contact engaged with before the call. Landing pages built for a specific campaign give them context for the conversation. Smart content can show a prospect from a given industry a relevant version of a page, which gives sales a warmer starting point.

### What marketing gains

Marketers publish and update pages themselves inside guardrails, so changes no longer queue behind a developer. Pages, blog and landing pages share templates and a brand, and the same content can feed social media posts and email without being rewritten.

Reporting reads content against contacts and deals, so deciding what to write next gets easier.

### What customer success gains

Customer success can use private content and membership pages to give customers a controlled place for resources, and personalize what each logged-in contact sees. Language variations help when customers span markets. Because it all sits on one record, the team sees engagement with that content beside account health.

## Set up the content system once, then run it

Content Hub rewards a team that treats its website as part of the revenue system. Decide who owns the theme, which data each form captures and what a good page must do. Then let marketers work freely inside those limits.

## Frequently asked questions

 What is HubSpot Content Hub?

HubSpot Content Hub is HubSpot's AI-powered content management system and content marketing platform. Teams use it to build website pages, landing pages and blog posts, add search guidance and personalization, and connect all of that content to the HubSpot CRM so results can be read against real contacts.

Can HubSpot be used as a CMS?

Yes. HubSpot's CMS lets marketers build and manage a full website in a drag and drop editor, with themes, templates and modules built by developers. HubSpot hosts and maintains the pages, so your team does not manage servers, plugins or security patches itself.

What is the difference between a website page and a landing page in HubSpot?

Both are built from templates and edited almost the same way. A website page presents information that belongs to your site and is designed to be found through search. A landing page is generally tied to a specific offer or campaign, such as a link in an email.

How is HubSpot Content Hub different from a self-hosted CMS?

HubSpot hosts, secures and scales the site for you, which removes plugin and update work. In return you get fewer low-level controls than a self-hosted system. Its biggest advantage is the link to the CRM, so content activity attaches to real contact records.

Does HubSpot Content Hub support more than one language?

Yes. HubSpot's CMS lets users create multi-language variations of their content, so visitors can read pages in the language they are most comfortable with. A language switcher on the page lets each visitor choose their preferred language.
